House tour continues…again: Stairs! We have stairs!

Hey folks.

Long day.  We are totally gassed.  Though it’s been great – dealing with weddings, selling & buying and other family dramas and tragedies all in a three week span is not for the faint of heart.

Alas, we take joy in the small things.  Like the fact that for the first time, we will own a house with stairs.  (insert cartoonish trumpet sound here)

The ‘up’ stairs – 

One of my favorite features of the house!

Refinished in softwood flooring, we love the feel of this stair case.  It leads to an upstairs nook too, where the window is at the top.  An excellent opportunity to do something creative.

Here are some great ‘nooks’.  Ours will probably have elements of storage (perhaps a dresser or chest), lighting, and of course personality.

The ‘down’ stairs – leading to the front door.

I’m sensing this front entry transformation will be epic once complete.

Okay, so these puppies need some work.  The stairs themselves are in great shape, but the mural on the large wall is a bit much and the trim work is overwhelming.  Not seen here is the giant ‘boob’ light fixture that does very little to illuminate the tiny entrance. We plan to replace it with a lower-hanging schoolhouse style lantern to bring some of that valuable light down where it will be needed.

Even so, there are also some very fun things we could do with our entry way stairs.

There are also stairs to the basement, but there are no photos of those yet.  They are actually painted out cream and don’t need anything done to them at all.
